About James
I’m a filmmaker and graduate student currently living in metro Detroit, Michigan. Originally from New Orleans, and having lived on the west coast in Los Angeles, this balance of American cultural styles has helped shape my life.
Professionally, in 2012, I founded Ascend Films (www.AscendFilms.com). I founded this video production and photography company as Detroit was in the midst of its ongoing renewal. I wanted to do my part to help create an exciting creative environment in the metropolitan Detroit area. Since its inception, Ascend Films has produced commercial work for global corporations such as AT&T, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors. I was the principle photographer, director, and film editor on these projects, as well as others under the Ascend Films name.
I have produced over fifty wedding films - many winning industry awards, as well as countless more short films and commercial projects. I like to say I am well versed in photography and video production techniques, from camera operation to advanced film editing techniques, with experience in both Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro editing software. Educationally, I hold an Associate’s Degree from Schoolcraft College in Livonia, MI in Liberal Arts (2009), a Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI in Media Studies (2016), and am currently pursuing my Master of Arts Degree in Media Arts from Wayne State University, with an anticipated graduation date of December, 2018.
